Contributions on the subject of geology

This page gives an overview of the geology offerings on Minetosh online. On the one hand, there are web apps that can be used online; on the other hand, LibreOffice Calc worksheets are available for download. These are "rediscovered" MS Excel worksheets that have been adapted for Calc.
The content may be expanded by additional contributions in a casual sequence.

The following geology web apps are available:

Geo-1: Calculation of various geological parameters by means of trigonometrical functions

RockClass: Calculation of the CIPW norm from geochemical analyses of igneous rocks and rock classification using the Streckeisen (QAPF) and TAS (total alkali vs. silica) diagrams

A simple plagioclase-garnet barometer: A program for estimating metamorphic pressure by microprobe analyzes of garnet, biotite, muscovite and plagioclase of rocks.

The Aluminium-in-Hornblende barometer of Johnson & Rutherford: An Al-in-Hornblende barometer. According to Johnson & Rutherford (1989), metamorphic pressures can be estimated by the aluminum content in hornblendes.

The Amphibole-Plagioclase Thermometer of Holland & Blundy (1994): Two thermometers (A and B) for silica-saturated and silica-undersaturated rocks, used for the recalculation of trivalent iron and the calculation of the occupations/activities in amphiboles, as well as pressure calculation according to Johnson & Rutherford (1989) and temperature calculation according to Holland & Blundy (1994).

FELDSPAR!: This program automatically calculates feldspar compositions (cations and the end members albite, anorthite, orthoclase and celsian) from microprobe analyses.

GarnetCalc: GarnetCalc automatically calculates garnet compositions from microprobe analyses. Results are plotted in the P-GA-AS diagram.

MicaCalc: Automatic calculation of muscovite composition and classification from microprobe analyses.

LibreOffice Calc

Spreadsheets for the manual and automatic, macro-controlled evaluation of microprobe data: calculation of mineral compositions, CIPW norm, etc.; automatic creation of classification diagrams.
